Mrs. Crimmins's Place

Mrs. Crimmins's Place is Christopher's first home. As a breeder of white mice, she keeps Christopher, Anna, their three brothers, and their mother in a cage. Little is revealed about their surroundings, but Christopher describes their cage quite clearly. It has newspaper shavings on the bottom and has lettuce and bits of cheese scattered about the shavings each day. Once a week, Mrs. Crimmins adds a nut to the cage. The cage door has a horrible grating noise whenever Mrs. Crimmins opens and closes it. Christopher's mother remains in this cage when all of her children are taken from her.

Pete's Pet Store

Pete's Pet Store is where Christopher and Anna are taken to be sold. They live in a cage under Hamster and beside Parrot. The pet store is loud all day, mostly because of the barking puppies. When the puppies settle down to sleep...
