Point of View

Graphic novels tend to be written in third person from an omniscient perspective, and this novel generally holds true to that form. Graphic novels, sometimes called comic books, depend heavily on imagery, meaning the reader is required to constantly evaluate the visual components as well as the written words. The omniscient perspective means the reader knows everything that is happening in any given scene, both visually and verbally. The author still has the ability to maintain some secrets, such as the writers who reveal details “based on” Flippy's childhood. Flippy seems to feel some of the information is not entirely factual, but he does not identify the specifics.
