Chapter 5 - Bethia narrates her happiness at returning home to the island with Joel and her family, her sadness that Caleb had remained behind, the happiness of Joel and Anne's wedding. She then describes how arrangements were made for Joel to return to Cambridge before the rest of them, as it was likely he was to be valedictorian and would need time to prepare.
