Summary

In Chapter 26, the narrator reflects on the solitude she feels while cleaning houses.

In Chapter 27, it is March and spring is on the horizon. The narrator entered the coop and saw that all the chickens were sleeping except Miss Hennepin County, who seemed to be fighting to stay awake.

In Chapter 28, the narrator watched Darkness pluck a worm from the ground and felt sorry for the worm.
