The City

The present day events of the novel take place in an unnamed city that has been reduced to ruins after apocalyptic events. The city is threatened by the looming danger of a giant flying bear called Mord and his army of proxies, and the Magician, who is trying to increase the reach of her power. Wick and Rachel's home, the Balcony Cliffs, lies in the city's northeast corner, the remains of the Company building are in the south. The Magician's territory is outside the city in a patch of desert to the west of the Balcony Cliffs. All of the city's tall buildings have been crushed by Mord, and the ruins are covered in lichen, toxic waste, oil, and black mold.
