Summary

"Tolls"

No one knows who will run for governor. Alhaji Usman has not stated clearly whether he will run. After having his cellphone taken away, Jibril begins texting Dantala from many different numbers. Sheikh visits to ask Dantala again about marriage. He explains that he has found a girl, though he conceals the fact that it is Aisha. DaNTALA gives Sheikh updates on Jibril. Dantala notes his recent discovery that the mosque only receives one-third of the money that Alhaji Usman claims to donate. Two-thirds of it he returns in cash to Alhaji Usman: “I do not know how to feel about it” (213).

Dantala calls Aisha, who is still mad about his comments about her green hijab. He tells Aisha that he wants to marry her. She hangs up on him, angry that he announced his intention to marry her...
