Summary

Chapter 10 – Ernie and Elaine, Maxine’s parents, attend a school show with her and Horst in which the students all act. Horst leaves from the school to attend to business. Meanwhile, Nicholas Windust, Special Case Officer, asks Maxine to get in touch with him. Nicholas reveals the security community has become nervous about software called Promis, meant to share data among district courts but leaves a back door open to release the information. The person to whom this information is being released is suspected of being an Israeli. Nicholas also reveals he and the Feds are interested in Maxine’s investigation into hashslingrz, and want information. Maxine doesn’t want to help. She dislikes Nicholas’s conservatism and his secret work in other countries in the past. A flash drive is later given to Maxine by a runner named Marvin.
