Chapters 11-15 Summary

Chapter 11. The Gilded Mirror. A short time after her arrival at Q cell, Gaia is chosen by one of the doctors, Sephie, to assist her during a birth. Gaia and Sephie are taken to the home of a young couple where Sephie helps deliver a breech baby. Afterward, Gaia asks about the ink and the tea her mother usually uses after the birth, accidentally revealing something to Sephie she had not intended. It also makes her realize that the freckles her mother always marked the babies with after birth was something important, more than a tribute to her brothers. When they prepare to leave, the husband offers a gift to Sephie, but she refuses. The man then gives Gaia a mirror, but she takes it as an insult because of her scars.
