Summary

In Chapter 29, Pino and Carletto help to prepare the Hotel Diana for the end-of-war party and play music and celebrate until the morning. In the park the next day he sees his cousin Mario who is shot dead after being mistaken for a Fascist. Pino sees the partisans taking over the city and he goes to Dolly’s apartment to find that Dolly and Anna have been taken. He sees a mob going into Castello Sforzesco where he sees people taken out in front of a firing squad, including Dolly and Anna. Pino is afraid to defend her in case he comes under suspicion too but tries to tell one of the partisans about his letter of approval to use as leverage. They shoot and kill the people, including Dolly and Anna.
