Dark versus Light

The main theme of this novel is Dark versus Light. There are two types of elemental magic, that inspired by and which feeds Light magic and that inspired by and fed by Darkness. Most Witchlings are born in the Light, but as they learn to use their magic they must pass a trial. If they fail the trial, or break one of the Light magic rules, they will turn Dark. There are also rules for Dark Witchlings. When they fail to follow the rules, they are killed by the Master of Darkness.

The battle between Light and Dark is not as intense in this novel as it might be. The Masters of Light and Dark are twin brothers, best friends once who do not wish to battle one another. However, the nature of their roles makes them natural adversaries. Beck, the Master of Light...
