Chapter 2 Summary

In chapter two, Rayford is in New Babylon and a song recorded from the Carpathian Chorale is piped out repeatedly in order to give people a way to find the loudspeakers where Fortunato promises food and water will be distributed.

Chloe begins her turn at watch, thinking about the response from other believers who live in the underground bunker with them once they learn the Global Community soldiers have been near. There are more than two hundred people living in the bunker in San Diego. Chloe serves as the director of a network of food-sharing cooperatives that provide food for those unable to buy and sell on the open market.
