September 11, Monday: Annie's day starts as an ordinary one. She showers and finishes a science paper. Later, after playing soccer, she limps off the field. She is sweaty and her uniform is grass-stained when suddenly a handsome boy comes running up to her. She cannot believe that he is talking to her. He tells her he is new there and is looking for a "sweaty, sporty sort of friend." (p. 2). The guys on his team begin calling for him and he runs off. As he runs off, he refers to her as his "friend." She is astonished.
