Summary

In Chapter 15, when Joan returned home from Alice’s, she “felt alive” (137). Alice was the first person since Gosia to validate Joan (137). Though Joan sometimes wonders if Gosia was a bad influence, she is thankful to her.

Joan brought “a paper boat of fried calamari” over to Lenny (138). She discovered him having an episode. Instead of telling him she was not Lenore as he thought, she pretended to be Lenore. It was easy “to say the things” Lenny wanted to hear (141). She noticed he was not wearing his watch. After he fell asleep, she tried unsuccessfully to open the safe. Then she stole a pipe, some tobacco, and a photo album. Almost all of the pictures were of Joan in various states of undress.
