Summary

Frank, Alan, and Brenda are all in France enjoying a European vacation. They enjoy their meals in nice hotels and people-watch during the day. One night, Brenda tells Frank that they should get together back in New York. She tells him about her children and suggests that she is getting divorced. Alan interrupts them and the conversation ends. Brenda leaves them to continue the rest of their vacation in Italy, where they travel through Venice, Padua, and Verona. Frank and Alan spend time exploring the towns separately. Alan likes to observe the various workers preparing for their days early in the morning. One morning he sees a girl in a jewelry shop laying out a piece of jewelry and asks her how much it is. He returns to their hotel.
