Summary

In Chapter 22, Anna prepares anxiously for dinner with the Wilder family at the Savoy Hotel, where she will see both Faye and Theo. She purchases a new dress rather than risk borrowing from Faye’s closet, hoping to blend into the luxurious surroundings. At the restaurant, she is warmly received by the Wilders. However, she is nervous under Faye’s scrutiny. Theo arrives late, already tasting of champagne, and makes teasing comments about Anna’s working-class background that sting, though others dismiss them.
