Feminism.

"Airhead" is about the misconceptions people hold about feminism and the role of women in popular culture.

Em doesn't see Nikki and her friends as real people because they work in the fashion and entertainment industry, and aren't concerned with education. Em feels that women like Nikki who are overly concerned with their looks must be unintelligent. She judges her sister for wanting to be one of the popular girls at school and for being on the cheer leading squad. Em believes that looking like a model and being a feminist are incompatible. Once Em becomes Nikki, she understands that the opinions she held about women like Nikki and Lulu are not accurate.
