Summary

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing opens with April, an art student from California studying in the Big Apple. She speaks directly to the reader and preps them for the story, mysteriously referring back to the time when she “was...human” (1). April describes her demanding graphic design job at a start-up that pays little and her intimate relationship with her roommate, Maya. After a 16-hour shift, April heads home but her metro card is rejected, so she goes back to the office. On her way, she stumbles upon an “ABSOLUTELY PERFECT AND REMARKABLE THING” and stops to study it (4). In front of her is a giant metal robot structure which she takes to be an art project. Wanting to document her finding, she calls fellow graphic design student, Andy, to join her.
