Chapters 5-8 Summary

In Chapter 5, Marcus is frightened to note that his mother's crying began with breakfast this morning, but he still does not know what to do about it. At school, Marcus attempts to hang out with a couple boys from the computer club, but when a group of older boys teases them all, the other boys ask Marcus not to hang out with them again.

In Chapter 6, Will attends a SPAT, Single Parents, Alone Together, meeting for the first time. Will has made up a two year old son named Ned, but finds himself having trouble keeping track of the details of Ned's life that he has made up. However, during the meeting Will meets Suzie and he believes that he has convinced her of the truth of his own single parenthood. During the meeting, Will also hears so many horror stories...
