Chapter Six through Chapter Ten Summary

In Chapter Six, Bridie and Shell steal a bra, and Bridie leaves Shell to go on a date in town. Shell, trying on the bra, misses her bus, but eventually makes it to pick up Trix and Jimmy from school, where the teacher asks about her father. Shell defends him, but knows when they arrive home he will not be there, as it is his drinking night. The children play happily after dinner, but eventually, Shell leaves the younger ones, so she can examine herself in the bra. Looking into mirrors in her parent's room, she decides to try on the only remaining clothing item of her mother's, a pink dress.
