Summary

Chapter 1 finds Jill starting as the pitcher in her last high school baseball game. The team wins the game. Afterward, her teammates congratulate Jill. She and the catcher, Leonard, trade compliments. When she shakes hands with the members of the opposing team, Jill compliments the bunt made by one of the players, as the player apologizes for bunting. When another of the opposing team members asks if Jill gets asked out on dates, and she tells him no. She thinks that she does not get asked out by boys because she is tall. Another player calls her a lesbian. Jill ignores the comment and continues to greet the members of the opposing team.
