Summary

Ten-year-old Ajay’s brother Birju hit his head on the bottom of a concrete pool while they were vacationing in Arlington. They had moved to Queens from India two years earlier and were visiting their aunt and uncle with their mother. 14-year-old Birju was unconscious for three minutes before being discovered. After a few weeks in a coma, the insurance agency told the family Birju should be moved to a long-term care facility. Ajay’s mother refused to move Birju until there was space in one of the better places in New York. She and Ajay extended their stay until Birju could be moved with Ajay’s dad visiting on weekends.
