Summary

In Chapter 4, at Ruth’s book signing, Clara noticed that Mother Bea, also from Three Pines was looking at a copy of CC’s book. Mother Bea seemed to be feeling some sort of extreme emotion that Clara could not identify. When Clara saw the book she understood why Mother Bea was so angry. The title was the same as the name of her meditation studio. The group from Three Pines made fun of the book as Gabri read from it. Clara noticed Mother Bea open and then shut her mouth when Li Bien was mentioned.

Alone in the hotel room, CC remembered a dying Christmas tree with only one ornament on it. Her mother, hysterical, had thrown the ornament at her and CC had caught it. CC knew she had to comfort her mother and keep her from crying and yelling so...
