Summary

Barney anchors his ship, the Alice, in the bay on the north coast of Hispaniola. Barney intends to see Bella. He turns his guns toward the sea in case anyone tries to attack him. However, he does not expect trouble. The Alice is a big three0masted merchant ship that Barney had modernized and installed sixteen cannons on the side. It only has twenty crew, while most ships of it size had forty or more. Barney, however, knows the ship does not need that many as most captains prepare for possible deaths. Whenever he loses someone, he picks up someone new in port cities.

In the afternoon, Barney pulls the ship ashore, buys supplies, and cleans the ship. His crew tell him the residents of the city are excited to hear about the cargo; scissors, knives, Netherlands cloth, hats, shoes, and...
