Summary

In Chapter 1, “Corpse Reviver #2,” Dorothy sat at the NoMad Hotel bar drinking a drink named Corpse Reviver #2 and thinking about the history of the drink. It was “the fall of 2013 in New York City” (10). Although she lived in New York, she liked frequenting places wanderers frequented. She noticed a man looking at her. She thought about the recent meals she had eaten, as Dorothy was a food critic.

The man, Casimir, bought Dorothy a drink. His appearance gave Dorothy a particular impression. She could learn a lot about a man by simply wanting “to fuck him” (12). Although she “should have known better” with Casimir, Dorothy had not learned her lesson (12). She had had many relationships. She thought of Giovanni, Andrew, Gil, and Marco (12). She wished she had read Casimir better.
