Terrorism in the Middle East has several motivations. One is hatred of the United States, especially its foreign policy. Another motivation is the resentment some Arabs have over the establishment of Israel and their belief that Israel does not have the right to exist. Antagonism to the peace process between Israel and the Palestinian territories also leads to Middle East terrorism.

Terrorism against the United States has included such incidents as the bombing of marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1983, the bombing of the Khobar Towers (another military building) in Saudi Arabia in 1996, and the bombing of American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. The Lebanese organization Hezbollah was responsible for the Beirut bombing, while Saudi Arabian millionaire Osama Bin Ladin is believed to be the mastermind behind the Khobar and embassy bombings.
