In February 1996, President Bill Clinton signed a law that required new television sets to include a V-chip that would allow viewers to block out certain shows.The legislation also provided for the creation of a television rating system by either the television industry or the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). In the following viewpoint, Rob Sabey, a freelance writer, argues that these steps do not go far enough to prevent children from being exposed to violence and other objectionable material on television.
