Dee Dee Myers

About the author: Dee Dee Myers served as press secretary for the 1992 Clinton campaign and as White House press secretary. She is currently the cohost (with Mary Matalin) of the cable television talk show Equal Time.

In the 1992 election, the Clinton campaign made successful use of new technologies to reach voters with its message. Voters, in turn, were able to use these technologies to voice their problems and ideas to the candidate. Bill Clinton was elected because he offered the nation a better vision, but his effective use of alternative media—such as talk shows, electronic mail, and faxes—to communicate that vision put him in touch with voters and their concerns and gave him the margin of victory.
