Leon R. Kass

In the following viewpoint Leon R. Kass argues that genetic engineering will slowly erode human dignity. According to Kass, blind faith in scientific progress has placed genetic scientists in God-like roles. Indeed, scientists are defining health for the rest of humanity and are even determining which babies will or will not be born. Genetic scientists claim that their goal is to improve human life, but in the pursuit of human perfection through genetic technology, claims Kass, these pseudo-gods will actually destroy what it means to be human. Kass, a physician and professor, is chairman of the President’s Council on Bioethics.
