Marriage as traditionally defined—the union of one man and one woman—is the most important social institution around the world. Legalizing same-sex marriage would turn the state against those who believe in the traditional definition of marriage. Furthermore, eliminating the prohibition of gay marriage could lead to the removal of other restrictions, such as age requirements or the ban against polygamous marriages. A tiny minority of the population should not be allowed to change society's moral codes.
