Heather MacDonald

Heather MacDonald is a contributing editor to City Journal and the author of Are Cops Racist" In the following viewpoint she argues that despite the outcry against racial profiling, there is little evidence that police engage in the practice. MacDonald writes that while it is wrong for police to stop or search individuals based solely on their race, it is permissible to use race as one of several factors in deciding whether to stop an individual, and this is the type of profiling used by police. MacDonald argues that the most famous report supposedly documenting extensive use of racial profiling is based on shoddy research.
