Polish mathematician who has resolved topological puzzles. Kuperberg graduated with mathematics degrees from universities in Warsaw before moving to the United States and earning a topology doctorate from Rice University. A professor at Auburn University, Kuperberg solved a bihomogeneity problem posed by B. Knaster in 1921. She next developed a counterexample to Herbert Seifert's conjecture regarding three-dimensional shapes that benefitted dynamic systems theory. Kuperberg has received the Alfred Jurzykowski Award and has presented the 1999 Emmy Noether Lecture.
