(Full name Anne Lesley Waldman) American poet, performance artist, and editor.
Anne Waldman is best known as a dynamic, performing poet who actively seeks to increase the popularity of poetry readings among the general public. A professor at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado, since 1974, Waldman has also toured as a performer in North America, Europe, and South America. According to Ann Charters, Waldman’s “poetry exhibits the open-form aesthetic often found in Beat writing, since she uses the literary methods and practices of spontaneous composition, collage, cut-up, and dream and journal investigations in her own work.Waldman is, however, more often characterized as a member of the community of younger East Side New York City poets than she is called a Beat writer.”
