Muslim scholar who was the author of an important Persian pharmacological treatise (Kitab al-Azhari al-lughawi) that was composed about 970. A Latin translation survived as an epitome prepared in 1055. The Latin text was known as Liber fundamentorum pharmacologiae. The Latin manuscript was translated into German and published in 1893. The German edition (Die pharmakologischen Grundsätze: Liber fundamentorum pharmacologiae des Abu Mansur Muwaffak bin Ali Harawi) was reprinted in 1996, demonstrating the importance of this work for the history of Arabic medicine, botany, botanical medicine, materia medica, and pharmacology.
