Oil conservation exists to preserve and protect the oil resources of the Earth, as well as manage the resources currently in use. Conservation of oil resources began early in the 1900's. The extreme cost and the hazard of of oil have prompted oil conservation efforts, in modern times, to focus on developing an acceptable alternative. This debate is still ongoing as the development, implementation, and sustaining of such an alternative, at this time, outweighs any benefit that might be derived.
