The Black Codes and the Ku Klux Klan left the recently freed slaves in conditions almost identical to what they'd been freed from. The Black Codes like the Ku Klux Klan did not view blacks as real citizens, both forbid any kind of voting rights, and both made sure that blacks were afforded no political rights. According to the codes, blacks were only allowed to go to court against other blacks, thus, the Ku Klux Klan continued their violence and hateful acts unhindered.
