Was there a book similar to Life and Death in Shanghai but involving a female, Chinese doctor who stayed over in Shanghai after the Communist takeover?

This question relates to above book by Nien Cheng. I thought I read a similar book several years ago about a Chinese, female doctor who decided to remain in Shanghai after Communism and suffered imprisonment.
