Suzette describes Narcisse Fredieu as a "pudgy" boy. Unfortunately, it's almost like payback when Narcisse becomes the first person to publicly snub Suzette in public. Narcisse eventually takes Philomene as his mistress, with whom, he goes onto father several children. Narcisse takes care of the children, but he marries several white women and fathers white children as well.
