Described by Suzette as a "pudgy" boy, Narcisse is the first of the group to snub Suzette in public, thereby making it clear that Suzette's place is not with Oreline and her friends and reminding Suzette that she is merely a slave. Narcisse eventually takes Philomene as his mistress and fathers several children by her. He takes care of the children but marries several white women and fathers white children as well.
