Mrs. Hill was Meridian's mother. She was a schoolteacher. Over the course of the novel, we learn that Mrs. Hill was not prepared for the loss of identity that accompanied being a mother. Though, she doesn't say it outloud, she blames her children for the loss of her happiness. Mrs. Hill has no interest in politics or voting, and her moral compass is defined by the idea of what is "good". Mrs. Hill, however, has a strong belief and God and the church.
