Rain by Sommerset Mauham is a story of two couples that are traveling. One is a missionary couple and the other is a doctor and his wife. The missionary couple really look down at everyone else as sinners or people that need clensed. The travelers are stuck on the island of Pogo Pogo due to an outbreak of measles. Finally, the stage for the story is set when a women of questionable honnor is forced to stay with the two couples. At first the wives judge the woman, and then the missionary husband decides he should save this women from her life. He goes to visit her in her room one night to try and show her the light and leaves with his own guilt because of what happens. This is the classic story of holier than thou people how hard it is for them to stay that way and what happens when they cannot live up to their own standards.
