What is the author's style in Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead?

The author's style in Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead is told in the first person point of view. Thoughts are directly expressed and because of the bond between Rose and Lissa the reader can see into Lissa's thoughts and emotions as well. There's a serious and dark vibe to the writing but with dashes of humor to keep people out of the depression gutter, language is fairly easy to understand and casual enough to portray genuine emotion.
