Who is Atticus Finch?

Atticus Finch, Scout's widowed father, is a lawyer and a member of the state legislature. Atticus is appointed the defense attorney for Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman, the town disapproves. As a father, Atticus is affectionate, comforting, and solicitous. He allows them the freedom to play and explore, but he is also a firm disciplinarian.
