To Kill a Mockingbird

Jem says that perhaps Boo Radley stays in his house because maybe he wants to stay inside." What does Jem mean?

What is ironic about Jen's certainty that Tom Robinson will be acquitted?

Jem means that perhaps Boo likes to stay in the house... that he isn't forced to stay inside, he does so by choice.

Jem's belief is ironic because the jury inTom Robinson's case is all white... with many prejudices. He is wrong to believe that the prejudice citizens of Maycomb can put aside their racism and do the right thing.
