What is Ada’s character?

Ada Smith is a young girl, who was born with a clubfoot. Because her mother is embarrassed by this, she wants to punish her. As a result, Ada is forced to stay in their one-room apartment. She is also abused and verbally berated by her mother. Although she doesn’t have any formal education and no knowledge of the world outside her house, Ada has a good deal of common sense.
