What is important about Chillingworth's first conversation with Hester in the prison?

It gives the reader insight into what his motives are for remaining incognito as well as letting the reader know what he intends to do to Dimmsdale. It also gives the reader an understanding of why Hester doesn't reveal him to the towns leaders.
