What is the role of family in difficult situations from the first chapter of the pearl

Kino wakes up in chapter one to hear The Song of the Family in his head. This is a song full of peace and contentment. These feelings will be juxtaposed with many more sinister feelings and songs through the book. Ironically it is the family that Kino is after that is the real pearl in the book.
