Why do the pirates attack the village in the novel, The Mistress of Spices?

While most people believed that pirates attacked the village because they heard about Tilo, Tilo knows that she summoned them because of her boredom and yearning for a different life. She soon became leader of the pirates but remained only a short time before becoming bored with that life as well.
