The imagery is consistent with the setting of the story. The majority of the story is set in ancient Egypt, with the action centered around Alexandria, where Cleopatra rules and lives. The general settings are real, though the author has obviously taken some liberties with the details of the settings. These seem, at least for the most part, historically accurate and lend a level of credibility to the story.
