Colonel Tom Parker in "Doppelganger, Poltergeist" is a symbol of death. In Mark’s theory about the true fate of Elvis, Mark portrays Parker as something of a harbinger of death, responsible for the murder of several prominent people, including the original Elvis, his mother Gladys, and the midwife Sarah Jane Restell. The vitriol Mark develops toward Parker represents the vitriol he develops toward death after unexpectedly losing his older brother and role model at a young age. Unsure of how to grieve properly, he funnels all of his energy into proving his brother’s theory true and turning Parker into a figure of pure evil and destruction.
