Glen Gore is most likely the actual culprit in the murder of Debbie Carter. He lived in Ada and was the last person seen with Debbie Carter on the night of her murder. He also had a history of violence against women. However, the police consistently avoided investigating Gore as a possible suspect and they instead worked to frame Ron Williamson and Dennis Fritz. Glen Gore was even used as a witness against Ron and Fritz during their trials. Even after Ron and Fritz were exonerated by DNA evidence, the police and prosecution refused to admit they were wrong, and they refused to investigate Gore.

However, years later, Gore was eventually tried for Debbie Carter’s murder and was convicted in 2006. The book offers a possible explanation for the police’s original refusal to investigate Gore. In the early 1980s, Glen Gore often sold illegal drugs to Ada police officers and received preferential treatment in return. The police officers likely also feared the exposure of these illegal drug purchases.
